Riftbound Rarities Explained – Alt Arts, Overnumbered, Signature Cards + Pull Rates

Riftbound Rarities

Ripping open a booster pack and want to know what cool cards to look for? We’ve got you. We’ll explain how to check how rare your Riftbound card is, and how you can find alternate arts, secret Overnumbered cards, and even rarer signed versions!

Collecting great art and special versions of your favorite characters is going to be really rewarding with Riftbound. With years of collaborations with artists and impressive attention to detail, Riot Games has made the card art shine in the first set: Origins.

Riftbound Rarities

There are five different rarities in Riftbound, as well as alternate arts of cards in the main set. The Overnumbered cards (past the numbering of the main set) are the rarest, with Signature versions of them being the rarest-of-rare.

You’ll know the rarity of a card by the icon at the bottom of the card, slap bang in the middle.

Common

Common

Your standard cards. Easy to get, with seven in every booster pack.

Uncommon

Uncommon

Slightly harder to get, but you still get three in a booster pack.

Rare

Rare

Rare cards always come in foil. Legend type cards come in Rare or Overnumbered only.

You’re guaranteed at least two Rare (or higher) cards per pack. Pulling or trading the Rares you want when building a deck shouldn’t be too tricky.

Epic

Epic

Epic cards always come in Foil. These are powerful cards that will be important in building a meta deck.

You could get three in a pack, but most packs won’t have any. Only around one in four packs will have an Epic.

OverNumbered

Overnumbered / Alternate Arts

This rarity symbol is used for two types of cards, both of which always come in foil:

  1. Overnumbered: Secret cards with numbers going past the main set i.e. 302/298. These can also have a Signature, making them incredibly rare.
  2. Alternate Art: Different art of cards from the main set, noted by an “a” after the collector number i.e 027a/298

Alternate Arts

There are Alternate Arts for all 24 Champion Units and the 6 Runes in Origins. The Rune alts have new art and no black borders, while some Champion Units have the same borders, just different art. Look for the “a” after the collector’s number.

The Champion Units are already key to the game, and only come in Rare or Epic. These alternate art versions are going to be chase cards for blinging out a deck.

Overnumbered Cards

Overnumbered cards take cards from the main set and give them unique, full-art treatment. They’re much rarer than even the normal Alt Arts. Interestingly, these can be reprints of cards from earlier sets.

Not every Overnumbered will be shown before release; some will only be known as players open packs. Officially, there is around 1 Overnumbered card for every 3 booster boxes, making it about a 1 in 72 chance of pulling one in a pack.

But wait, there are even harder to get cards!

Signature Cards

Some of the Overnumbered cards will have a Signature version. It’s exactly the same, but with the artist’s signature stamped onto the card, plus a * after the collector number i.e. 305*/298.

Officially, 1 in 10 Overnumbered will have a signature, or about 1 in 30 booster boxes. That means around 1 in 720 packs will have a Signature card.

Foils

Every card in Origins can be foil, but every Rare, Epic, and Overnumbered card is always foil. So, the commons and uncommons can be found in either non-foil or foil version, but anything good is always foil.

How Many Rare Cards Per Pack?

Each booster pack comes with 14 cards made up of:

  • 7 Commons
  • 3 Uncommons
  • 1 Foil – Any Rarity
  • 2 Foils – Rare or higher
  • 1 Token or Rune Card

As far as averages go, expect the “any rarity” foil slot to be common/uncommons, then both of the “rare+” slots to be rares most of the time.

Pull Rates

It’s important to know that pull rates are averages. That means you are not guaranteed to get rarer cards if you open a certain number of packs. You could pull really well, or really badly. TCGs are as close to gambling as legally possible without being regulated.

That being said, these are the rough pull rates for Riftbound. They’re based on details from official product descriptions, the official website, tweets, and news from the press event.

Alternate Art1 in 122 per box12 per case
Overnumbered1 in 721 in 32 per case
Signature1 in 7201 in 301 in 5

Because the three foil slots are two rare or higher and one of any rarity, it becomes quite a bit harder to calculate everything else. Two rares in a pack will be your most common rip.

Does Riftbound Have God Packs?

Some other TCGs have packs where all or most cards are high rarity. The team were quiet on the subject of God packs when asked. But in theory, you could pull Alt Arts, Overnumbered, or Signature cards in all three slots of a Riftbound pack.
